Challenge #1: Transvestites

My carpool buddies, Rob and Dan, true teens of the ’80s, bombard me with music from my childhood during our long drives into the office. Songs like “Black Cars” and “Lola”, and other weird songs about transvestites…which got us thinking about creating a playlist.

Here are the songs for the playlist so far:

  1. Funky Cold Medina (Young MC)
  2. Dude Looks Like a Lady (Aerosmith)
  3. Black Cars (Gino Vannelli)
  4. Lola (The Kinks)
  5. Uneasy Rider ’88 (Charlie Daniels)
  6. Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed)
  7. Get Back (The Beatles)
  8. Polythene Pam (The Beatles)

Challenge #2: Christmas Gone Bad

My family loves collecting Christmas music. I have a rule that Christmas music can only be played between Dec 1 and 25 – I’m simply bored to death of the tunes. Having said this, my older sister found an album with the song “Christmas in Jail”. This opened my eyes to Christmas tune possibilities beyond Jingle Bells and Go Tell It On The Mountain. Before December 1, I hope to be playing a new and entirely non-traditional playlist about Christmas Parties Gone Bad.

Here are the songs for the playlist so far:

  1. Christmas in Jail (The Youngsters)
  2. Grandma Got Run Over By the Reindeer (Irish Rovers)
  3. St. Stephen’s Day Murders (Elvis Costello)
  4. Christmas at Ground Zero (Weird Al)
  5. Miss Fogarty’s Christmas Cake (Irish Rovers)
  6. Fairytale Of New York (Pogues)
  7. Santa Claus Got Stuck In My Chimney (Ella Fitzgerald)
  8. Please Daddy Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas (John Denver)
  9. You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch (Thurl Ravenscroft)
